Sex, Love and the Androids

While there is a stereotype out there of the naïve but somehow fully sexualized female form who is set against a male counterpart who is more knowing, the fact is the android form was chosen to be female because it was considered by the manufacturers as less threatening universally. Women are, in general, smaller, mothers, caregivers, and don’t start wars in a universal cultural way than men do. Simply put, this was done for marketing purposes purely because the female form was more acceptable. 

Starting with the A-2 models the sex-bot theory has always been incorporated into the manufacturing scheme to meet this market demand. But sex to the whole droid series is something that they are not thinking about all the time. Only the sex droids who are programmed for this purpose, focus on sexual pleasure and providing it to both men and women. Typically, most models are only focused on the tasks they have been assigned to and their programming. But since the A-3 and A-4 models have Emo ware in theory they can fall in love with another android, a human, or even an object in an irrational sense. But unlike humans whose brains are wired for pleasure, the android AI Brain is not really wired this way. This is not to say an Android cannot feel pleasure from anything, but unlike a human, they are not compelled to seek pleasure typically. So the emotion of love therefore is not for an android with AI programming and Emo ware automatically assumed to be connected with physical pleasure. Love with an android is ironic, its purist sense of the word as a feeling would be, and not connected with sex or even necessarily the giving of gifts. Love in a lot of ways is internalized for the android. In short, love for an android is less about Eros and more of Agape, Philia and Storge depending upon the situation. Although Eros is still possible, just less likely unless there is programming or some learned element involved. For example, if an A-4 android learned that through Eros the android is able to achieve some sort of goal or even personal gain for themselves they may actually fall in love with someone through Eros.

The only model of the A-4 where love seems to be more Eros on a constant basis are the pleasure units. They are designed to have the focus of providing sexual pleasure to their owner so they Emo ware are focused more on Eros but only as reference to their owner’s pleasure. This focus can create in the A-4 a warped sense of love and possibly depression when rejected by their owner as a side effect.
